Manuscript memoirs of an unidentified soldier of 38th (1st Staffordshire) Regiment of Foot, of his career in the Army 1808-1815
The account describes the Coruna and Walcheren Expeditions, service in Ireland and the Peninsular War (1808-1814), including the Battle of Salamanca (1812) where the writer was captured and became a French prisoner of war for 17 months. The evolution of his religious views are fully described and the account also includes details of life in the Army at the time.
