Itinerary of a journey to Dresden by Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Torrens, 18 October 1819
Torrens had earlier served with the Royal Marines during the Walcheren Expedition (1809) and with the Spanish Legion in the Peninsular War (1808-1814). He was also a noted economist, member of parliament for Ipswich (1826) and Ashburton (1831), and advocate of the colonisation of South Australia.
