The Paddington Rifles was formed in 1860 as the 36th Middlesex (Paddington) Volunteer Rifle Corps, and became the 18th Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps (as 4th Volunteer Battalion, The Rifle Brigade) in 1879, although it was still widely known as the Paddington Rifles.
