Hellfire Corner was a busy junction on the Menin Road near Ypres. The Menin Road was a major supply route and Hellfire Corner was so named because it was within easy range of the Germans' guns, which were targeted upon it. Anything moving along the road was vulnerable to devastating shellfire day or night, making it the most dangerous spot in the whole sector.
