Edmund Smith Brook (1845-1910) joined the Army in 1866 and went on to serve in the Zulu War (1879) and Transvaal War (1880-1881). He later commanded the 2nd Brigade of the Tochi Valley Field Force in 1897-1898 and was appointed commander of the Harrismith district in South Africa in 1902. Brook was Commander of Troops, Cape Colony, when he retired in 1907.
