Members of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps make the beds at their barracks in France. Women did not serve in the front line but behind the lines in the bases and depots established to support the fighting men at the front. There they worked as cooks, waitresses, typists, clerks, telephone operators, store-women, drivers, printers, bakers and cemetery gardeners.
