A colour party of the 4th Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers and a parade in front of soldiers and civilians, 'The old colours escorted from the right to the left of the line for the last time. Band playing "Auld Lang Syne"'. A newspaper at the time described the crowd present at the ceremony as a 'large and fashionable gathering of the people of the town and country'.

Valentine Augustus Browne (1825-1905), Viscount Castlerosse (from 1853) and 4th Earl of Kenmare (from 1871) was made Honorary Colonel of the 4th Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers in 1866. His wife, here referred to as 'Viscountess Castlerosse', was Gertrude Harriett Thynne (1840-1913).
