4th Battalion, The Royal Munster Fusiliers (Kerry Milita), marching to church, Tralee, June 1904

Photograph, Ireland, 1904.

The residents of Tralee in County Kerry watch the 4th Battalion march past. In August 1914 the unit was assigned to coastal defence duties in Ireland and then England, but many of its pre-war reservists were used as replacements for members of the 1st and 2nd Battalions who were killed in action during the early months of the war.

From a photograph album compiled by Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Ambrose D'Oyly Goddard, Royal Munster Fusiliers, 1891-1957.
