Pair of boots issued to Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas William Andrew Tomlinson,43 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers, 1981 (c)

Black leather boots with nine pairs of blackened metal eyelets at centre front. Palited worsted laces, each end bound with transparent plastic. Black leather bellows tongue. Inner sole of gold-coloured plastic or nylon mesh. Ridged black composition soles and heels.

These unused boots were issued to Lieutenant-Colonel Tomlinson by the Purser of HMS Warrior, Northwood. Northwood was originally a Royal Air Force base before it was transferred to the Royal Navy in 1963. NATO also established a presence there at this time. In 1996, the Permanent Joint Headquarters (a tri-service organisation) was established at Northwood. It is now home to Joint Forces Command.

From a uniform associated with Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas William Andrew Tomlinson, Officer Commanding 43 Field Support Squadron, Royal Engineers, British Army of the Rhine (BAOR), Osnabruck, 1970-1980s.
