Military funeral in Palestine, 1946

In the aftermath of World War Two (1939-1945) the British Army found itself stuck in the middle of a growing conflict between Arabs and Jews in Mandate Palestine. By the time Britain gave up her mandate in May 1948 the security campaign had cost 338 British lives.

From photographs collected by Major H M Cox of the Corps of Military Police in Egypt and Palestine 1943 until 1946.
