William Leefe Robinson (1895-1918) was awarded the Victoria Cross for shooting down a German airship over Britain during World War One (1914-1918).
Robinson was flying a converted Blériot Experimental 2c over Cuffley, Hertfordshire on the night of 2 September 1916 when he spotted the German airship Schütte-Lanz SL11. He made an attack at a height of 11,500 feet and approaching from below he caused the ship to burst into flames.
