Typescript memoirs of Mrs A E Bucklee, Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and Auxiliary Territorial Service

Bucklee served in both World Wars. She was employed as a clerk attached to the Army Pay Corps after enlisting with the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC). She was stationed at Fulwood Barracks, Preston, which became a depot for several regiments. They slept in schools and initially wore male uniform. She describes serving with men, attending concert parties at the Royal Hippodrome, Preston, and playing in a ladies football team. She played at Blackburn Rover's ground and raised £100 for war comforts.

In 1938 Bucklee applied to join the newly formed Auxiliary Territorial Service. She began training in February 1939 at Fulwood Barracks, in a clerical company, and was soon promoted to Section Leader. Her memoirs discuss war work but also joining a dramatic society. Bucklee was released from service in 1947. She later joined the Joins Comrades Association, British Legion and Poppy Fund.
