Beret, Colonel Patrick Anthony Porteous VC, No 4 Commando, dated 1943
Dark green felted wool and leather all ranks beret made by Kangol Wear Limited, with metal thread embroidered badge, 1943.
During World War Two Captain (Temporary Major) Patrick Anthony Porteous was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery while serving with No 4 Commando on the unsuccessful Dieppe Raid. The VC citation for the action on 19 August 1942 records that Porteous, despite being wounded twice, took over command of a an assault which resulted in the destruction of a German battery. He continued to serve after the War and was commissioned as colonel in July 1963.
