Oval vignette with head and shoulders portrait of the Royalist Colonel Sir Bernard Astley in armour and lace collar.
During the English Civil War Astley took part in the Storming of Leicester on 31 May 1645 and the Battle of Naseby on 14 June 1645. He died of the wounds received at the Siege of Bristol in August 1645.
