South Atlantic Medal 1982 with rosette awarded to Private D Andrade, Falkland Islands Defence Force, 1982

Cupronickel circular campaign medal with the crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the inscription, 'Elizabeth II Dei Gratia Regina Fid Def', on the obverse. On the reverse is the Falkland Islands' coat of arms, with the inscription, 'Desire the Right', and a border of a laurel wreath and the words, 'South Atlantic Medal'.

The Falkland Islands Defence Force (FIDF) was a local volunteer force raised to defend the islands. It served alongside the Royal Marines in April 1982 when the Argentines invaded the Falklands. For the duration of the war members of the FIDF were kept under house arrest at Fox Bay until the Argentine surrender. The FIDF was reformed in 1983.
