Austin Champ 4x4 truck, 1952 (c)
Army registration: 04 BE 44.
The Champ began production in 1952. Powered by a Rolls-Royce four cylinder 2.66 litre petrol engine, the Champ had a five speed gearbox. Snorkels were fitted to the first 5,439 vehicles which enabled the Champ to wade to a depth of two metres. Eventually replaced by the much cheaper Land Rover, production of the Champ ceased in 1958 after 12,000 were built.
