Commemorative plaque, Punjab Frontier Force Memorial, 1849-1947
Brass commemorative plaque in memory of all ranks of the 4th Punjab Infantry, later the 57th Wilde's Rifles Frontier Force and then 4/13th Frontier Force Rifles, who gave their lives 1849-1947 including listed officers who were killed or died on service up to the commencement of World War One (1914-1918) and officers whose memorials were lost in the Kohat Church fire of 27 Jan 1938.
After the Partition of India in August 1947 the Frontier Force units were divided between the Indian and Pakistan Armies. It was then decided that the memorials to the Punjab Frontier Force, the 'Piffers', erected in the garrison churches should be relocated to England, and in 1951 they were installed in the Parish Church of St Luke's, Chelsea.
