AFV in snow in the carpark of 215 Signal Squadron, 1996

Oil on canvas painting by J H L (Hugh) Beattie, Inns of Court and City Yeomanry, Implementation Force (IFOR), Bosnia, 1996.

The artist, Hugh Beattie, says that the army runs through his work. Four generations of his family have served in the Territorial Army. He served with the Inns of Court and City Yeomanry while still at art college and painted while on deployment in Bosnia in 1996. Beattie is passionate about showing the glorious side of the armed forces; 'I want the paintings to keep the flame of what it is to be proud to be in the army alive.'

Implementation Force (or IFOR) was a NATO-led force sent to Bosnia in 1995-96. British soldiers were deployed under a United Nations mandate to act as peacekeepers, protecting towns and convoys of humanitarian aid. The painting depicts an FV432 tracked armoured personnel carrier with 'IFOR' markings on the front and side.
