Rifleman J Furnell and Rifleman Swift, 2nd Battalion, The London Irish Rifles, Italy, October 1943

The men are using a captured German MG34 machine gun. Furnell was the smallest and youngest man in his regiment and as such was the battalion mascot. His battalion fought in North Africa and Italy during World War Two as part of 78th Division.
