A member of 3rd Battalion, Parachute Regiment, keeps watch, with a Sten gun and a mug of tea.
The Paras had been deployed to the Canal Zone in late 1951 as the security of the British installations there deteriorated. Egyptian guerillas established themselves in the towns along the length of the Canal Zone and attacks on vehicles, property, and service personnel increased.
