Photograph by Lieutenant L D Wedd DSO, Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, Boer War, 1900 (c).
The Royal Navy often took part in land operations to assist the Army. These landing parties were called Naval Brigades. Sometimes they took the guns from their vessels ashore to aid these operations.
From a collection of seven photographs collected by Lieutenant Laurie Dunkin Wedd DSO, Queen's Royal West Surrey Regiment, during the Boer War (1899-1902). Wedd sailed to South Africa on the steamship 'Yorkshire', fought at Colenso and was wounded on 19 January 1900 during operations to relieve Ladysmith.
