The soldier depicted was probably a member of the Federal Regular Army (FRA), an Arab force with British officers, that assisted Regular British Army units in their struggle against Egyptian-funded and trained revolutionaries prior to the British withdrawal from Aden in November 1967.

From a collection of 110 photographs collected by Private M Arnold, the 3rd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment; collected whilst serving in Aden, October 1966 to May 1967.
