Cap badge of the Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire) worn by Corporal Alfred Laxton during World War Two

The motto of this regiment was 'Loyauté M'Oblige', which translates as 'Loyalty Binds Me'. This was inherited from the 81st Regiment of Foot. The latter had amalgamated with the 47th Foot in 1881 to form the Loyal Regiment, which recruited in Lancashire and the Isle of Man.
