India General Service Medal 1854-95, with clasp, 'Burma 1887-1938', awarded to Honorary Captain (Quartermaster) William Burrows, South Wales Borderers

Silver, circular campaign medal with an effigy of Queen Victoria and inscription, 'Victoria Regina', on the obverse; on the reverse, the figure of Winged Victory crowning a kneeling figure with a laurel wreath; red and dark blue ribbon with clasp, 'Burma 1887-89'.

William Burrows, born in Dundee in 1855, joined the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot in 1871. He served with 'C' Company 2nd Battalion during the Zulu War (1879). As well as serving in Burma, Burrows returned to South Africa in 1900 to serve with his regiment, now the South Wales Borderers, in the Boer War (1899-1902). He was made an honorary captain in 1901 and retired from the Army in 1903.
