Wolseley pattern hot weather helmet, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), 1930 (c)
Cork helmet covered in khaki cotton drill with diamond-shaped, red and white cloth flash bearing the title, 'Buffs'.
Originally approved for use for all ranks serving overseas in May 1904, the Wolseley helmet was used extensively during World War One (194-1918).
This example includes the regimental distinction of coloured folds in the pugri, as well as a regimental title on the left hand side. This type of pugri was simplified to a universal three fold type in 1941.
The helmet was still in use on the outbreak of World War Two (19139-1945), but issue was ceased in 1943.
From the collection of the former Buffs Regimental Museum.
