Note in Sir William Gomm's handwriting showing dates of the most remarkable events in the Spanish War

During the Peninsular War (1808-1814) Gomm initially served as assistant quartermaster-general, fighting at the Battles of Roliça and the Battle of Vimeiro (1808). He later served on Sir John Moore's staff at Corunna (1809) and fought at Bussaco (1810), Fuentes de Oñoro (1811), Ciudad Rodrigo (1812), Badajoz (1812) where he was wounded, and Salamanca (1812). After that he took part in the Siege of Burgos (1812), the Battle of Vitoria (1813), the Siege of San Sebastián (1813) and the Battle of Nivelle (1813).

From the papers of FM Sir William Maynard Gomm, 1770 (c)-1865.
