'Swift Treatment And Evacuation of Wounded', Normandy, June 1944

The speed in which Allied wounded were removed from the Normandy battlefield, coupled with the untiring work of the surgeons and medical staff, saved thousands of lives. After being rushed to a Regimental First Aid Post, where their wounds received an initial inspection, soldiers would them be taken in stages back to an embarkation point where they were sent to England either by plane or ship.
