The Maysan Battle Group conducting counter-smuggling operations in Maysan Province, Iraq, 13 September 2006

Photograph by Corporal Anthony Boocock Royal Logistic Corps, 20th Armoured Brigade Media Ops, Operation TELIC (2003-2011), 2006.

The Maysan Battle Group, led by The Queen's Royal Hussars, developed a new role conducting counter-smuggling operations in the desert and marsh areas of north-eastern Maysaan Province, seeking to shore up security in the area and gain intelligence from the locals about illegal activity. As well as visiting border forts in their stripped-down Weapons Mounted Installation Kit (WMIK) Land Rovers, the troops conducted 'Hearts and Minds' operations in the border villages.
