Replica Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bottle switch, 2013

This is an example of a command-pulled IED, commonly used by insurgents during the Afghanistan campaign (2001-). It is normally used to initiate Directional Fragmenting Charges (DFCs) targeting foot patrols. Insurgents pull the 'command' string, causing the metal contacts on the clothes peg to come together and initiating the device.
