1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment and Royal Engineer elements participating in 'Spearhead Land Element' (SLE) exercise on Salisbury Plain, December 2009. SLE units are on 24-hour notice to provide British military assistance anywhere in the world. The troops's training for this role includes undertaking various testing humanitarian aid, hostage rescue and combat scenarios.
