Diary, 16 February 1916 to 14 May 1919, written by Lieutenant Eric Peace Hall, Hampshire Regiment and Corps of Royal Engineers

The diary describes his original posting to the 13th (Reserve) Battalion and transfer to the 15th (Service) Battalion, his journey to Rouen, life at camp, lectures and exercises before joining the 2nd Battalion in the firing line at Belle Eglise.

The diary outlines life in the trenches and describes the Battle of the Somme (1916). In October 1916 he took over a new mining company and in January 1917 he was attached to 455 Field Company, Royal Engineers, before rejoining 2nd Battalion of the Hampshires on 10 March.

In January 1918, whilst on leave in the Britain, Hall was admitted to hospital. On recovery, Hall was posted to the 2/51st Battalion of The Hampshire Regiment in Egypt. In February 1918 he was attached to 496 Field Company, Royal Engineers.
