Order of the Mejidie, Turkey, Badge of the 5th Class awarded to Lieutenant-Colonel (later General) William Inglis, 57th (The West Middlesex) Regiment

William Inglis (1823-1888), the son of the General Sir William Inglis who so memorably commanded the 57th (The West Middlesex) Regiment at Albuhera in 1811, was commissioned an ensign in his father's old regiment on 6 March 1840. Promoted captain in 1849, he served during the Crimean War (1854-1856) at Balaklava, Inkerman, the Assault on the Redan (18 June 1855) and in the expedition to Kinburn. While in the Crimea he received the brevet ranks of major (1854) and Lieutenant-Colonel (1855) and was later created a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He retired with the rank of general in 1882.
