Distinguished Conduct Medal awarded to Private Charles Johnson, 77th (East Middlesex) Regiment, 1855

Circular, silver medal with, on the obverse, a trophy of arms, designed by Benedetto Pistrucci. On the reverse, the inscription, 'For Distinguished Conduct in the Field'. The edge is inscribed with the recipient's rank and name, 'Charles Johnson. 77th Regt'. The dark crimson ribbon has a central navy blue vertical stripe.

During the Crimean War (1854-1856), the 77th (East Middlesex) Regiment of Foot fought at the Battles of Alma and Inkerman in 1854, and participated in the Siege of Sevastopol, 1854-1855.
