'Noyon: The destruction of this town was perhaps the most cowardly of the German frightfulness. Our picture shows the Cathedral and the Place de l'Hotel de Ville', 1918

Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1918.

Noyon was almost completely destroyed during the war. It was bombarded particularly hard following the German retirement to the Hindenburg Line in March 1917 and again during their retreat following the Battle of Amiens in August 1918.

One of 193 British and Allied official photographs.
