Enfield, Pattern 1914 No 3 .303 inch bolt action rifle, 1916

Engraved on butt within circular disc: 'To the Rt. Hon. David Lloyd George, Minister of Munitions. The First Enfield 1914 Rifle made for the British Government in U.S.A. February 1916'.

The United States remained neutral until 1917, but American companies supplied Britain with munitions, raw materials and money throughout World War One (1914-1918). This is the first Enfield Pattern 1914 rifle produced in the United States for the British Government. It was presented to the British Minster of Munitions, David Lloyd George.
