Captain Herbert Augustine Carter VC

Captain (later Major) Herbert Augustine Carter of the Poona Mounted Infantry won the Victoria Cross for his actions during the Somaliland campaign in 1903. While under fire, Carter saved a wounded Indian soldier who had been unhorsed. In 1916 Carter died of fever during the First World War campaign in East Africa.
