Lieutenant James Maxwell Hiddlestone (151671), 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), boxing in a tournament in Surrey.

Hiddlestone was killed in Libya in June 1942, during fighting on the Gazala Line. Hiddlestone, Jimmy Sale and Peter Gregory were commanding three tanks knocked out while escorting an ammunition convoy in the chaotic battle in 'The Cauldron'. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission records Lieutenant James Maxwell Hiddlestone as dying between 6 and 7 June 1942. His name is commemorated at the Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya.

In October 1940, the 3rd and 4th Sharpshooters Regiments moved to the Dorking area, with the 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) billeted in Cherfold, Chiddingfold and surrounding villages. The Sharpshooters were temporarily deployed to various training areas during this period. After gunnery training in South Wales in February 1941 the unit returned to southern England to train on the South Downs between Worthing and Arundel. In May 1941 3rd County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) moved to Westbury in Wiltshire, prior to deployment to North Africa.
