Prisoner of war menu, Offizier Gefangenenlager (Officer Prison Camp), Burg bei Magdeburg, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, 1915
Menu with illustration of a pig with a label tied to its tail, inscribed 'To Tipperary'. The menu lists the following dishes, 'Consomme d'Irlande', 'Filets de Boeuf aux Allies', 'Pommes de Terre au Joffre', 'Creme de Riz aux Trefles' and 'Oeufs aux Anchois Extraordinaires'; followed by toasts, 'The King', 'St Patrick and Ireland', and 'Success to the Allies'.
Captain (later Lieutenant Colonel) Michael Charles Cooper Harrison (1888-1967), 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, mounted an unsuccessful escape attempt from this camp in 1915. This was one of a series of escapees mounted by Harrison during his time as a prisoner of war in Germany, which he describes in his co-authored memoir 'Within Four Walls'.
