'TAB (Para)', Falkland Islands, 2013

Oil on Paper, by Jules (Julian) George, 2013.

Jules George was granted access to join Type 23 frigate HMS Argyll on active deployment in the Falklands. The work that he produced gave an insight into peacetime deployments to the windswept islands. TAB is an army acronym for Tactical Advance to Battle. In 1982, during the Falklands War, the Royal Marines and members of the Parachiute Regiment tabbed 56 miles from San Carlos across the islands in three days. They were carrying their full marching kit, weighing 36 kg.
