Gully Ravine, Cape Helles, 1915

Photograph, World War One, Galipoli (1915).

Gully Ravine was located on the left of the Allied position at Cape Helles near 'Y' Beach. It witnessed fighting in April 1915 in the aftermath of the initial landings, but once the area was cleared it saw no further engagements until 28 June when 2nd Battalion 10th Gurkha Rifles, and 2nd Battalion The Royal Fusiliers, captured a nearby spur of ground during operations to extend the flanks of the new front line following the Third Battle of Krithia (4 June).

One of six photographs collected by Captain P R M Mundy, 4th Bn South Wales Borderers, 1915.
