British artillery horse teams in action. The artist produced a number of drawings of gun teams on the Western Front including studies of teams involved in the Battle of Cateau in 1914. This drawing features drivers and an accompanying mounted officer wearing steel helmets which were introduced in 1915 to protect against head injuries from shrapnel and other hazards.
