'Rescuing the guns', Le Cateau, 1914
Lantern slide by Newton and Company, with the 'Newtonian' trademark used in the 1910s, after artist Samuel Begg (1856-1927), with a reproduction of artwork from the 'Illustrated London News'.
The image shows the saving of a field gun at the Battle of Le Cateau on 26 August 1914. Captain Douglas Reynolds, Driver Frederick Luke and Driver Job Drain, 37th Battery, Royal Field Artillery, were all awarded the Victoria Cross for their gallantry during the action.
