Studies of First World War British artillerymen and two portrait sketches
Charcoal and wash sketches from a sketchbook by William Barns Wollen (1857-1936), 1917 (c).
Studies of four mounted British artillerymen of World War One (1914-1918) with two portraits above.
Wollen produced works relating to two celebrated actions featuring British artillery in the early stages of World War One. They featured the 37th Battery Royal Field Artillery at the Battle of Le Cateau on the 26 August 1914 and 'L' Battery, Royal Horse Artillery at Néry on 1 September 1914. These studies may be for a work relating to the latter action.
