Webley Mk V .455 inch revolver, 1915

Commercially produced Webley revolver, with a 6 inch barrel.

Although this is a commercially produced version, from the late 1880s Webley revolvers were standard issue weapons for British and Commonwealth forces for nearly a century. The Mark IV and the Mark V, introduced in 1913, were the commonest revolvers in service at the start of World War One. Revolvers were issued to officers, trench raiders, machine gun crews and, like this example, airmen of the Royal Flying Corps.
