Cap badge, officer, 1st Battalion 50th Kumaon Rifles, 1917-1923

In April 1918 the 4th Battalion 39th Kumaon Rifles became the 1st Battalion 50th Kumaon Rifles, the third name for a unit first raised in October 1917. In 1922 it was grouped with the Jat Regiment then in 1923 it became affiliated with the 19th Hyderabad Regiment, as the 1st Kumaon Rifles. During World War One (1914-1918) the 1st Battalion 50th Kumaon Rifles fought at the battles of Sharon and Megiddo in Palestine. In 1921 they were stationed in Constantinople as guard to the Allied Headquarters. In 1923 the unit was affiliated with the 19th Hyderabad Regiment, as the 1st Kumaon Rifles.
