Grenade, drill, L4A2, 1976 (c)

This grenade is an inert version of the British 'L2' grenade. From the late 1960s the L2 grenade replaced the Number 36 grenade, also known as the 'Mills bomb'.

Inert grenades like this were used for throwing practice to enable soldiers to judge distance and accuracy of their grenade throwing. The L2 grenade was replaced after 2000 with the L109 grenade.
