Grenade, drill, L3A3, with drill fuse L30A2, 1977

This grenade is an inert version of the British 'L2' grenade. From the late 1960s the L2 grenade replaced the Number 36 grenade, also known as the 'Mills bomb'. The blue body indicates this is a drill version.

Inert grenades like this were used to familiarise soldiers with the weight and components of a live grenade. The drill fuse can be unscrewed in the same way as a live fuse in a real grenade.

The L2 grenade was replaced after 2000 with the L109 grenade.
