Gurkha soldiers of the Meerut Division armed with fixed bayonets and kukri knifes push on through recently captured German positions during the Battle of Neuve Chapelle in March 1915. Over 100,000 Gurkhas fought in the First World War. As well as Neuve Chapelle, Gurkha battalions served at Loos, Givenchy and Ypres on the Western Front, and in Mesopotamia, Persia, Palestine and Gallipoli against the Turks.
