Treating a wounded German prisoner near Langemarck, 26 September 1917

Photograph, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1917.

Captured during the Battle of Polygon Wood, the German soldier undergoing treatment wears the famous Model 1916 Stahlhelm, known to many British soldiers as the 'coal scuttle' due to its distinctive shape. The Royal Army Medical Corps soldier attending him is protected with the Brodie, or Mark I helmet.

From an album of 76 official photographs.
