A 15-inch howitzer near Ypres, 27 September 1917

Lantern slide, World War One, Western Front (1914-1918), 1917.

The 15-inch howitzer was primarily used to destroy deep and re-inforced German fortifications. The weapon's great size and weight made it difficult to move and emplace. This example was used during the Battle of Polygon Wood (26 September-3 October 1917).

From a box of 50 lantern slides.
